Those awesome developers behind YouTube has successfully played videos without a flash plugin by using the upcoming HTML5 format, which is one of Google's major plan for the future of the web.
It is still not perfect and it as of now works on Safari and Chrome but they are working hard to also work on other browsers as well but this is a small achievement in their 1000 mile journey.
